My Story

My mom is fond of saying that I “came out of the womb singing”…while I can’t confirm whether or not that’s accurate, I have always had an incredible love for singing and performing. As a child, I remember rewinding our VHS copy of Disney’s Hercules over and over until I had the lyrics to one of the songs memorized word-perfect to sing along.

A formative moment for me came when I was old enough to sing in my elementary school choir. On the very first day, the boy in front of me made a rather nasty comment - i.e, that my singing was terrible and I needed singing lessons! Although I was hurt at the time, it ultimately sparked a lifelong passion for learning more about what my voice could do and how it is a reflection of my inner self! I began classical singing lessons shortly afterwards and continued them into my teens.

Throughout my teenaged years I developed a deep love for choral music and theatre in my home city of Edmonton, Alberta. Soon my passion for singing began to reach new heights as I learned the basics of Alexander Technique, vowel formants, and detailed tuning - all while singing alongside my best friends!

I continued with private lessons until I reached University, where I achieved a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, with specialized study in choral and vocal pedagogy, as well as classes on acting for singers. A few years after I graduated, I went back to school and acquired another Diploma, this time in Musical Theatre, where I also studied voiceover and voice acting techniques,

Now, as a teacher of singing and member of the National Registered Music Teacher’s Association, my mission is to help others learn how to play with their own natural voices without tension or self-judgement. I am dedicated to being a lifelong learner and to continuously attend vocal, acting, and pedagogy classes and conferences to find the best resources for my singers. Above all, my goal at The Voice Studio is to foster the love of singing in all of my students; I can’t wait to make music with you!
